From_the AVE DIES AT HOSPITAL Services for Treasury Divi- sion Chief to Be Held Thursday. Charles Neil McGroarty, 78 years old, | for many years chief of the division of loans and currency of the Treasury Department, died today in Garfield Hos- pital. His death followed an operation Sun- day for a stomach disorder with which he had suffered for some time. Despite this handicap, however, Mr. McGroarty remained active until he became criti- cally {ll a few days ago. Funeral services will be held Thurs- day afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Presbyterian Church at Falls Church, Va. The Rev. A. B. Altfather, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be'in Oakwood Cemetery, at Falls Church. The death of Mr. M-Groarty re- moves from the service of the Treasury able es. On October 8, 1874, he was married to Miss Evangeline Tweed of George- town, Ohio. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here in 1924. In 1893 Mr. McGroarty relinquished his newspaper work and came to Wash- ington, entering the service of the Treasury Department immediately. Shortly thereafter there Was & reorgani- zation in the department and he was placed in charge of the division of loans and currency. In this important post he had charge of Government loans, devoting a great deal of his time and energy to handling the Liberty loans of the World War and loans incident to the Spanish-American War. His devotion to his work is evi- denced by the fact that on four occa=- sions after passing the retirement age he had his term of service extended. Active in Church Work. Mr. McGroarty was especially active in the work of the Presbyterian Church in his home town, serving until his death as one of the elders. Mr. McGroarty, who moved to the| Evangeline Hotel here from Falls Church Tecently to be nearer his office, was the father of five children, two of whom survive. They are Mrs. john F. Bethune and Miss Mary Evangeline McGroarty, both of Falls Church. Besides his widow, he also leaves two grandchildren, Cath- erine Jean Bethune and Elizabeth Mc- Groarty, of Falls Church. His other children were Elizabeth Mc- Groarty, Charles Neil, jr., and Stephen P. McGroarty, who was killed in France In 1918. MTr. McGroarty's body is at Gawler's funeral establishment. Ritchie to consider the feasibility of a central home, has been appointed a member of the com- mission’s committee to visit and study the consolidated alms houses in opera- tion in Virginia. The establishment of a central alms house for the western shore has been considered favorably by the commission. The committee wiil report at the next meeting of the com- mission., Mrs. Ray at the last meeting of the commission reported that an average of 18 inmates are cared for each year in the Prince Georges County Alms House at an approximate cost of $5,000. —_— Will Revive Classics. Milford, college surgeon, sald he did not feel there was any danger of epidemic, but recommended the quarantine as a precautionary measure.
