NEW YORK, December 17 (#).—Two assistant United States attorneys yes- terday led a raid on the offices of Graham Taylor & Co., dealers in in- vestment securitles, and arrested one man, who, they said, was not one of the “big guns” they sought, Lowell Wad- mond, assistant United States attorney, said that information furnished by Post Office inspectors indicated that ‘“more than $1,000,000 had been taken from suckers by the gang operating under Graham Taylor & Co.'s name within six months. Morris. the man in arrest, was ar- raigned before United States Commis- sioner Francis A. O'Neill on a charge of using the mails to defraud and was held under $2,000 bond for the Fed- eral grand jury. Wadmond said the complaint which ied to the raid came from St. Louis, where an unnamed person had been ad- vised by a telephone “tipster” that Standard Oil of New Jersey was a good stock to buy. The person remitted $16.~ 000 in cash and some good stocks, Wad- mond said, and received in return an envelope containing not Standard Ofl, but 200 shares of worthless securities. WASHINGTON’S FINEST MEN’S IDEA TO GIVE SHIRTS WE SUGGEST noted Smithsonan anthropologist. “Not until the remains have been | passed upon by outside expert sclentists | can there be any talk of vast antiquity,” “The finds, as reported, are highly in- teresting and may prove of considerable value, but until the whole subject has been studied by outside experts it is best to preserve caution.” ‘Ten headless skeletons and one com- plete skull were reported found in lime- Stone quarries at Chow Outien, 30 miles from Peiping. Local scientists were hesitant to ex- press opinions on the remains until they had detailed scientific descriptions, but several ventured that “the cases do not have earmarks of ancient discoveries.” Part of the hesitancy was due to the number of skeletons found, for, it was pointed out, ancient discoveries do not g0 in groups. The absence of heads was also looked upon as indicating more modern re- mains because so-called ancient man did not have knives and is not believed even to have had heavy stone axes. Opinions were expressed that the ab- sence of heads may indicate some an- clent ritual of beheading, the presence of head hunters in the region, execu- tions. or other manifestations that were labeled “‘more modern.” Part of the caution also was due to reaction to a find made several years ago of a jawbone in the same region. The jaw contained three teeth, largest being toward the front of the mouth and the others decreasing in size toward the back. According to present scientific opinions, the decreasing size of teeth is only associated with more modern man.
