Wholesale poultry dealers this morn- ing were without definite information as | to the prices which will prevail during| the Christmas turkey market { “There are ‘P]en!y turkeys,” observed ! a dealer, “and the demand should be better than the demand during the Thanksgiving market. “As to prices,” he added, “they should not be much different from the prices quoted during the Thanksgiving holi- | day season. “And if the prices should go high, he added, “consumers will hold off. It is generally believed by wholesalers that turkey prices during the holiday season will be about 35 and 36 cents, the suggestion being made that there should be about a 40 and 45 cent retail matrket. Nearby Shipments, Supplies of dressed stock from Texas are on the way here and to other cities in the East, coming in chilled cars, and | any supplies coming later, it is stated, will have to come by express, making the prices several cents a pound higher. Raisers in Maryland and Virginia are bringing in their turkeys to local dress- ing plants and wholesale houses. Re- ceipts this morning were not especially heavy, dealers stated, but increases are expected the remaining days of the week. Slight changes in prices were report- ed this morning, but they were so slight that they had practically no bearing upon the market. A continued firm condition nfd(,hc butter and egg market was reported. Tamonte _quantities of frults and | vegetables were displayed on the farm-| ers' line and in the commission house | district, all varieties of both fruits and vegetables being plentiful and prices, according to dealers, cheap. Early morning trading was fairly active, dealers reported, but the markes soon became quiet. Several carloaas of green peas, mostly from Mexico ana California, already have reached the Jocal market for the holiday trade, deai- ers quoting 45-pound crates at $7.25 and $7.50. . str‘lng beans this morning were more plentiful than at any time this season, best quality selling around $3 a bushel basket, while some of ordinary quality were to be had as low as $1. s Strawberries, more plentiful, ~were offered at 60 and 65 cents a quart, and dealers expect they will sell as low as 50 cents for the holiday trade. Prices of most commodities this morning were substantially the same as prices quoted yesterday.
