Professors Hosts at Faculty Banquet A faculty banquet held by members of the professional staff of the Catholic University of America took place Tues- day evening in the Chinese room of the Mayflower Hotel and was attended by more than 150 persons. The ladies of the university circle, wives, daughters and guests of faculty members added charm to the first purely social event in which the faculty as a body had par- ticipated and the largest gathering of faculty ladies in the history of the uni- | versity. Right Rev. Mgr. James Hugh | Ryan, rector, was present and-greeted the guests. Right Rev. Mgr. Edward A. Pace, vice rector, was also present, and assisted the rector as host. The affair is believed to have been unique in that the guests enjoyed a speechless evening. The rector, extending a brief welcome to the assemblage, was the only person to _take the floor, Entertainment was furnished through- out a most enjoyable evening. The Novelette Orchestra played during the- dinner, .after which there followed a specially arranged program. The first artist was Mrs. J. De Sequiera Coutihno, wife of Dr. Coutihno of the university staff. Mrs. Coutihno formerly played for the Queen of Portugal and her ap- pearance_was most_enthusiastically re- ceived. She offered “Leyenda,” by Al- beniz, and “Polonaise, A Flat Major,” by Chopin.
