S. to Be Enrolled by Organization. Plans for the enroliment of thousands of members from throughout the United States as members of the newly or- ganized patriotic organization, “the So- clety of Descendants of the First Citi- zens of the United States of America,” are announced by the founders, all resi- dents of this city. The soclety was organized and in- corporated last September, with Samuel Herrick as its first president, Francis B. Culver, vice president and registrar, and Thomas C. Washington, treasurer. The organization proposes particular- ly to commemorate that period in the history of the United States between 1787 and 1790, or the wadoption of the United States Constitution. The re- quirements for membership are de- scribed as follows: Membership Requirements. “Any person of the white race shal be eligible to membership in this so- clety who is a citizen of good repute in | his or her community and is the lineal descendant of an ancestor who was & | worthy citizen of the United States at | the time of the adoption of the Federal | Constitution.” Printed invitations to be extended to persons to join the society state: “Al- though the observance of ‘Constitution day' has taken the form of an annual celebration throughout our country, no society has heretofore been organized expressly to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of the United State: 1787-1790." The invitation then reads “This most important event in our national history is the keynote of this organization, which recognizes that the Constitution is the bulwark of our Gov- ernment. Celebrations by individual groups, however, can only be tempo- rary, sporadic and intermittent. To bring home to the American pecple the priceless heritage which is theirs under our constitutional form of government there should be an enrollment of the patriotic citizenry of the United States in one homogeneous body through an organization which will seek, system- atically and unfailingly, to inculcate and disseminate true American princi- ples based upon the Constitution as in- stituted by our forefathers.’ Dates From 1790. Mr. Culver, the vice president and registrar, in describing the general ob- jects of the organization at a recent meeting of ‘he Dl.!trlct of Columbia So- clety, Sons®of the American Revolu- tion, declared: “This new society will present an op- portunity for a vast army of patriotic Americans who have never become af- filiated with existing organizations to join a society which will afford them an ancestral blclfiound tracing to 1790 at least. It will put them in the way, perhaps, of finding Revolutionary lso, and thus swell the ranks Further objects of the soclety are de- scribed in its constitution as follows: “The objects of this society are de- clared to be: To commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of the | United States as instituted by our fore- | fathers—the keynote of our omnlu- Our special offer 1 THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGT D6 TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1929. Many tales have come from the West of qshomi)ers obstructing railroad trains by piling themselves in count- less numbers on tracks. Now there comes a story from India of locusts clogging the radiators of airplanes and forcing them down because of over- heated engines. The irony of this story is that the planes were being used to spray poison. on the locust pests, which were devouring the crops. 1930 DIARIES AND CALENDARS Store Hours: 8 AM. to 5:30 PM. E.
