TAKOMA GITIZENS AGT ON CROSSING iAdopt Resolution Deploring Loss of Life at Chestnut Street Site. The Takoma Park Citizens' Associa- tion in a meeting held at the branch library last night deplored the con- tinued loss of life at the Chestnut street grade crossing. The group decided to send a copy of the letter to the District Commissioners, requesting again the need for the elimination of the danger- ous crossing, where several people lost their lives three weeks ago. The association discussed at length the need for a new home for the Dis- trict National Guard, and through a resolution expressed itself as being in favor of the building of a suitable home or of securing some favorable place already constructed. ‘The body was unanimous in the de- sire for a new market for the District to take the place of Center Market, and while several expressed themselves as desirous of having the proposed mar- ket located in that section, the associa- tion decided that as so many similar groups were expressing their wishes in resolutions at this time, it would be best for them to wait and put in their bid when it would have more telling effect. After discussing the need of repair work on several of the important streets and roads of the section, the associa- tion talked about the proposed new Northern High School. Dr. D. N. Shoemaker, president of the association, acted in that capacity, while Harry Knee served as sccretary. AUTHOR TO # ADDRESS JEWISH GATHERING Maurice Samuel to Speak on New Book on Palestine Disturb- ances. Maurice Samuel, author of “I, the Jew,” and “You Gentiles,” will speak at the Jewish Community Center to- night on the subject of his latest book, “What Happened in Palestine.” He will speak under the auspices of the District Zionist Organization and his lecture will be largely attended by members of this society, the Ha- dassah, the Mizrachi, Poale Zion and other groups affiliated in the Jewish homeland cause. Mr. Samuel was in Jerusalem at the outbreak of the riots this Summer and was an eyewitness to many of the disturbances. He has made a stuay of the causes behind the Arab uprising and will discuss the prospects of car- rying on successfully the work of up- building the Jewish homeland. Louis E.
