H Argentine 13 Argentine 6sJu 69.. Oet NEW YORK, November 19.—Bond |, prices advanced today in a good volume of investment buying. The improvement was general throughout the list, with United States Government issues still strong at their high prices of the year. Convertible issues were not turned over in such quantities as has been the rule of late, and their prices remained practically unchanged. Throughout the better class of in- vestment bonds the advances were small but significant. It was evident that considerable sums of money hitherto drawing big interest rates in the call money market and elsewhere were being attracted to this exchange. Some of the rails and public utilities reached rices from 1 to 2 points above the I evels of last week. Issues of the St. Louis-San Francisco, Southern Pacific, Unlon Pacific and Great Northern Rail- roads were among these. American Telephone 5%s, Standard of New York 4Y5s, Standard of New Jersey 5s, Phila- delphia Electric 55 and Columbia Gas bs (May, 1952) were up from fractions to a point. Japanese issues were the feature of the foreign list, responding with frac- tional advances in large sales to the snnouncement that the Japanese government had arranged a loan of $50,000,000 in New York to enable the raising of the embargo on gold ship- ments and the stabilizing of the yen. German descriptions were also higher, German Central Bank 6s (October, 1960) advancing a& point and German reparations 7s improving fractionally. In general, the dollar bonds of other countries were strong. Lautaro Nitrate 6s were an exception, dropping 4 points. Municipal loans were the ‘only new ssues announced today, the total being $3,600,000, made up of small amounts. The State of Kentucky announced it would seek bids for $11,667,000 of 5 per cent bridge toll bonds. ‘The fact that San Francisco was un- able to secure a par bid for $4.000,000 of 41%s indicates that the bond market is not yet ready for this class of financing. San Francisco has $41,000,- 000 of water bonds that have besm lying on the shelf for months awaiting a suitable bid. Washington St;achange [ SALES. ‘Washington Gas 55—$500, at 98%. C., TUESDAY, B. & 0. REPORTS GAIN IN 10-MONTH PERIOD Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, November 19.—During the first 10 months of this year business handled by the Baltimore- & Ohio Rail- road, especially freight traffic, was about 5 per cent greater than the same period in 1928, George M. Shriver, senior vice president of the road, told the annual meeting of the stockholders here yester- day. Shriver presided in place of Daniel Willard, president, who is con- fined to his horae with & cold. From the latter part of October to the present day, however, Shriver said, there has been a falling off of freight business handled by the B. & O. That decrease is about 7 per cent in volume over the same period & year ago. To what extent this falling off in traffic is due to deflation in security values or prices, he could not say Shriver said, however, he believed th= decrease is due, in some degree at least, to_that fact. The following directors were Tre- elected: Newton D. Baker. HBernard M. | Baruch, Delos W. Cooke, John J. Corn- | well, Robert Garrett, John R. Morron, | Frederick H.
