POLICEMAN FACES DESERTION CHARGE District Officer Is Held in Mary- land in Default of Bond on Traffic Counts. Policemari Stanley De Vaughan of the fourth precinct, who is being held in Upper Marlboro, Md., on six traffic charges, today was charged with de- sertion by Maj. Henry G. Pratt, super~ intendent of police, and his case brought | to the attention of the Police Trial| Board. The charge was placed against De | Vaughan after he failed to appear for roll call at his precinct. It was the third day the policeman has been ab- !sent and the police manual provides that an officer absent three days may be charged with desertion and dismissed if found guilty by the trial board. Meanwhile De Vaughan, unable to furnish $2,000 bond, is in jail at Upper Marlboro, facing charges filled against him by Prince Georges County police after a series of collisions on the South- ern Maryland pike Monday afternoon. His bond was set by Jhstice of Peace Harry 1. Anderson.
