11‘14 WOMEN OF CIVIC INTEREST LAUDED Cathedral Heights-Cleveland Park Group Approves Elec- tive Board Plan. A plea for greater recognition of the work being done for the promotion of civic interests by women, made by '2 George R. Wales, marked a meeting of the Cathedral Heights-Cleveland Park Citizens' Association last night in St. A!bln‘s Guild Hall. Mr. Wales voiced his views in making | P- @& report for the nominating committee in which the re-election of Mrs. Harrjett F. Saunders as president was recom- mended. While the election will be a formality of the next meeting. tremen- dous applause greeted the speaker’s sug- estion that Mrs. Saunders be again onored. Exceptional Work Cited. Dec]ul.nf the organization had done exceptional work since Mrs. Saunders took over the reins a year ago, Mr. Wales - asserted the president was en- titled to another term. He expressed the oplnlan that Mrs. Saunders hld been “most efficient and successful.” He added she should be returned to office to carry out various projects initiated during her administration. ‘There has been undue criticism re- cently by men in citizen association cir- cles concerning the activities of women since they were admitted to member- ship, Mr. Wales said. He insisted such remarks were unfair. The speaker con- tended the citizens’ organizations have been much better off since women be- came interested. Citing his own asso- ciation, he pofhted to the fact that the attendance has been above the average since Mrs. Saunders assumed the lead- ership. Other Officers Commended. Mr. Wales also commended the other | officers and nominated the same slate for re-election. No opposition was voiced. The other officers are Grahame H. Powell, vice president; John W. Townsend, secretary, and Miss Sarah ‘W. Schroeder, treasurer.
