SUBURBAN NEWS. THE _EVENING CLARENDON PLANS COMMUNITY HOUSE Steps Taken to Provude I:mc Headquarters for Vir- ginia Section. @pecial Dispatch to The Star. . 'LARENDON, Va,, November §5.— Steps looking to the establishment of | & building to house the civic activities ot Clarendon and vicinity were taken last night by the Clarendon - Citizens’ Corporation, holding company for the citizens’ association, mesting at the home ot A. C. Putnam, president of the former organization A’ committee consisting of A. J. Por- ter, chairman; L. C. McNemar and J. This action was taken after spon- sors of the movement called atten- tion to the fact that several organisa- tions are planning separate homes, and pointed to the advantages, from an eco- nomical standpoint and to the com- munity, of all joining in establishment of a building of a size to care for all of these activities. ‘The corporation, it was stated, has sufficient funds in hand to provide a meeting place for the citizens' associa- tion, which has been without a per- manent home since the sale of the old community building, but this would be inadvisable in view of the growth of the town and the need for a larger auditorium. Sponsors of the project have in mind an auditorium that will seat at least & thot persons, one that will be mflclemly large to care for big con- ventjons or community celebrluons It was also suggested that among other prerequisites of a community center the bullding should include a gym- STAR, WASHINGTON, D.
