NEW YORK, October evidence of a new demand (or hllh grade bonds was given today in vances throughout the list of nflmdl and public utility mortgage issues. not so large in volume as the convertibles, the movements in the bet- ter grade issues, with coupons ranging between 4 per cent and 5 per cent, were the significant feature of today’s trad- ing. ~Advances were in most cases fractional but this compared with a long period in which steady declines have become familiar. Spinach and kale were fairly plentiful, the former selling at $1.25 and the latter at 75 cents a bushel. Peppers, carrots, beets, string and lima beans were in plentiful supplies. Lima beans, cheaper than last week, were offered at $4 a bushel; shelled stock selling at 55 and 60 cents a quart. Corn and cabbage also were plentiful. Good corn sold around $1 and $1.25 for 5-dozen sacks, while the cabbage was offered at 75 cents a bushel basket. Plentiful supplies of fruits were of- fered the retall trade b merchants. Oranges, grapefruit and lemons were reported high, while lower prices were quoted for grapes, honey- O ibier grapes, laTgést of the Calt ler grapes, of the - fornia grapes offered today, sold at $5 a box of 24 pounds. Whoopee variety of Zinfandel grapes, said to be one of the best juice grapes offered, were quot- ed at $1.40 a box.
