JULTIN CLOCK TURNS N RAD Control Timing Device Is De- signed for Convenience of Listeners. s BY MARTIN CODEL. NEW YORK, September 26 (N.AN.A.). ~A clock that is bullt into the cabinet of a radio receiving set and turns it on or off at a fixed time is one of radio’s newest wrinkles. It is a development of the Dubilier laboratory, and will soon be on the market. Like remote control tuning, which enables one to operate his set from afar, clock tuning (or timing) is de- signed for the convenience of radio listeners. A special dial on the clock can be set to a certain hour, and the program on a selected wave length will be automatically tuned-in at that hour. Similarly, the bother of turning off the radio set is eliminated. The clock, connected with the set's controls, per- forms that task. Future “Program Setter.” Next probably will appear a clock tachment that can be set at a gi station’s wave length for one period and at another channel for another period, making it possible for the listener to schedule his evening's radio entertain- ment in advance without troubling to manipulate his set each time he wants to shift stations. In other words, he will pick up his| evening paper, select the programs on | several stations he wants to hear, and | leaye the reat to the clock device. “Gadgets.” or new accesspries, rather | than anything radically new in radio receivers, are capturing chief interest| at the Radio World's Fair of 1929. There is practically nothing on display here this week that was not shown at the Chicago trade show of last Spring. | Moreover, most of the sets being shown are already in the hands of the radio dealers throughout the country. Again the screen grid | phasized for greater select perior amplification. But thi purchaser of the latter part of last year and early this year need have no fear of obsolescence. The best sets of the last 12 months are still the best sets on the market. | Furniture design is occupying the makers of radio sets more and more. The crude designs of a few years ago, | eyesores in any home, are being dis- placed by models that are fitting and pleasing. Moreover, the furniture is adaptable; that is,” there are models suited for various styles of interior decoration. Even period furniture, -~ith due regard to modernistic trends, is on display. | Wide Selection of Cabinets. One enterprising manufacturer has decided to go into chassis production entirely, leaving to the set-buver the selection of the type of furniture he| would prefer. The radio apparatus is relatively small, and can be fitted into phonograph cabinets or cabinets spe- | cially bullt for radio. With the co- operation of furniture makers, a wide selection of cabinets is made available. ‘There is relatively little excitement among leaders in the radio industr Delicious Dishes You'’ve been Missing; No. 11 JUST try “Fish Cakes in Peppers”—green peppers ¥ | _stuffed with Gorton's Ready-to-Fry Cod Fish Cakes, sprinkled with buttered crumbs and baked in theoven. While radio ownership is becoming commonplace, the industry itself is in a perplexed state. The proposed advent of General Motors into the radio field is causing no little pause among some of the manufacturers, especially the smaller units.
