“HODEL AR TRAFFL CODEISEVPLETED Government Bureaus Issue Suggestions for Standard Port Laws. Standard air traffic regulations for airports throughout the United States are urged by the Department of Com- merce aeronautics branch which today issued a suggested model code, prepared by the Department of Commerce with the co-operation of the Army Air Corps, the Navy Bureau of Aeronautics, the Aeronautical Chamber of Commerce, airport engineers and managers and aircraft operators. The general adoption of a standard code of field rules will eliminate for air traffic much of the confusion asso- clated with present automobile traffic, in the opinion of Maj. Clarence M. Young, director of aeronautics, who will there are a number of matters ha to do with maneuvers on the ground an with fiying~in the immediate vicinity of airports which are not covered by the Federal air traffic rules, it is im- rules be ndogted in the interests of safety and the orderly, efficient and profitable ‘use of airports, the aero- nautics branch believes. It is regarded as vitally important that all rules, laws and ordinances re- garding the passing, crossin, signaling and landing of aircraft enacted by in- dividual airports, municipalities, coun- tles and States be identical with the Federal regulations, Maj. Young said. ARMY BAND TO TOUR. The Army Band has been authorized by the War Department to make & public concert tour in 18 States, under the direction of C. C. Cappel, during the months of October and November. Leaving here October 6, the band will give concerts successively in cities in Pennsylvania, Ohlo, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Missis- sippl, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. Dwellers on the shores of Lake Nemi —*“the mirror of Diana,” in the Alban Hills, 15 miles from Rome—view with increasing resentment and alarm the quest of two Roman galleys sunk 1,900 years ago by order of Emperor Caligula. Recovery of the boats may gratify the curiosity of archeologists, and it may bring to light treasures abandoned by the profligate Romans (though on that point there is increasing skepti- cism), but it means severe loss if not ruin for many of the peasants whose livelilhood comes from the bordering fertile fields. Nemi _strawberries are famous for their delicate flavor, and here, too, are raised many fine flowers. The vast en- gineering project whereby the water of this very deep lake is pumped into a nearby lake of lower level has already severely damaged the sofl about Nemi, as well as marred the beauty of a spot sung by poets and recorded by artists for many centuries.
