t= TAKOMA CITIZENS SEEK SCHODL SITE Instruct Secretary to Address Letter on Subject to Bureau of Budget. At is first Fall meeting last night, in the Takoma Park branch of the Wash- ington Public Library, corner of Fifth | rellef of traffic conditions on Marviand and Cedar streets, the Takoma Park Citizens’ Association requested its sec- retary to address a letter to the Bureau of the Budget asking for the inclusion in the coming buceet of an item for the purchase of a site in that area in con- nection with the location of a senior hi- 1 school. An’ appropriation was approved ‘to- ward the placing of a flagpole and flag at the Takoma Park branch of the Library. It was voted that the Office of Buildings and Public Parks be requested to include in its schedule for band con= certs next season the Whittier School laygrounds. A motion was adopted authorizing the presiding officer of the Takoma Park Citizens’ Association to participate in the ‘mal exercises in connection with the second annual celebration of th: Takoma Park Chamber of Com- merce on September 17, 18 and 19. The smoke nuisance in the communi- 1y nst which numerous complaints h: been received, was referred jointly to the committee on health and sani- tation and the committee on parks, playgrounds and community beautifica- tion. Memorials were adopted relative to the recent deaths of Mrs. John Walker and Charlgs Dietz, sr., members of the association. Copies were ordered sent to the families of the deceased members. The following were elected to active membership: Ralph L. Perry, Frederick Steiner and James W. Hirst. On motion of Mrs. Mary Lamond White it was voted to elect Miss Mondereau, who has been in charge of the Takoma Park branch of the Washington Public Li- brary duri the past season and is now leaving Takoma Park. | YOUNG MAN KILLS SELF BY INHALATION OF GAS “Zote to Gir! Is Found in His Hand. Hyattsville Judge Gives Sui- cide Verdict. Clasping a note which he had written to a girl, in his hand, Edward Sword, 25 | years old, committed suicide last night, | at 3704 Campbell street, Brentwood, | Md., by inhaling gas. | Friends of the young man say that on | other occasions he has threatened to take his life, and at one time attempted | to borrow a revolver. Early today he was found in the cel-| lar of the house where he had lived, | with the note in his hand, and a wrench which he had used to turn on the ga lying by his side. His body was discov- ered by neighbors, who summoned No. 1 Rescue Squad of Bladensburg. ‘The note which he held read: “Good- by, Pal. It was up to you. Good-by, Catherine.” Judge Mofiatt of Hyattsville, at an in- quest held this morning, returned a ver- RELIEF OF TRAFFIC ASKED BY CITIZENS Conditions on Maryland Ave- nue Cited by Stanton Park Association. Action was taken at the first Autumn meeting of the Stanton Park Citizens’ Association last night looking to the avenue northeast and the installation of controlled lights at certain congested intersections. Representatives of the Traffic Bureau will be asked to investigate conditions particularly at Stanton Park during the afternoon rush hour, when hundreds of motorists are returning to Maryland suburbs. This congested center, it was | said, is not only without a_traffic po- liceman, but lacks traffic lights also. Another corner to which the Traffic Bu- reau’s attention will be called is at Eighth street and Maryland avenue. A. H. Gregory, president of the Stan- ton Park Citizens’ Association, in dis- cussing school matters at the meeting, criticized the Board of Education chief- ly for what Gregory termed a complete ignoring of even unanimous expressions of opinion on the part of citizens' as- sociations regarding the selection of teachers and principals of schools. He said he doubted if citizens’ asso- ciations would ever receive fair consid- eration by the Board of Education un- til it becomes a body elected by popu- lar vote. The assoclation last night nominated officers for the ensuing year. They will be voted on at the next meeting, to be held the second Monday in October. The nominees are A. H. Gregory, presi- dent; Gilbert A, Clark and S. R. Frantz, Vce presidents; Mrs. L. H. Brown and | James P. Farmer, secretary; Robert | L. Bier, financial secretary; Robert borne Hunter, treasure!
