Copeland is arriv- ing in New York today on the Bremen after spending several weeks abroad. Senator Hamilton F. Kean of New Jersey has taken an apartment at the ‘Wardman Park Hotel. Representative and Mrs. Homer W. Hall have taken a suite at the Roose- velt Hotel for the Winter season. Brig. Gen. and Mrs. James M. Ken- nedy will be at home this afternoon at Walter Reed Hospital from 4 to 6 o'clock. Mrs. Kennedy will be assisted by Mrs. Frank L. K. Laflamme, Mrs. Albert G. Love, Mrs. John W. The commercial attache of the Cuban embassy and Senora de Rda entertained at dinner last evening in honor of Dr. Miguel Varona Guerrero, collector of customs of Havana, Cuba, and delegate to the conference on customs and port regulations which will be held in No- vember. Another guest was Prof. Pedro E. Betancourt, jr., secretary of an agri- cultural experimental station of Havana, who is on a special mission for the secretary of agriculture of Cuba to study modern and scientific methods in dairying, farming and poultry raising in this country. Dr. Varona is staying at the Carlton Hotel and Prof. Betancourt is at the Sol- diers’ Home. Consul_general and Mrs. Ernest L. Harris, who have been staying in Wash- ington, will sail on the S. S. President Roosevelt tomorrow for Bremen en route to Prague, where Mr. Harris will take up his duties as consul general. Before coming to Washington Mr. and Mrs. Harris visited in their home in Milwaukee. Mr. Harris was until re- cently consul general at Vancouver, British Columbia. Col. Frank E. Webb entertained at a luncheon yesterday at the Carlton Hotel for Mr. August Vollmer, who has been appointed head of the investigators for the Natlonal Commission on Law Ob- servance and Enforcement.
