HAGERSTOWN, May 31.—The June drop has cut heavily into the earlier estimates of the apple crop in the Han- cock belt, according to growers. The drop thus far has been tremendous. Rains and cold weather during the blos- som season were blamed by growers. Railroad agents at Hancock had esti- mated the apple crop at from 700 to | 1800 carloads and the peaches at 200 car- | loads, as against 600 carloads of apples last year and 200 carloads of peaches, but it now may be necessary to cut deep- ly into the earlier estimates, J. A. Co- hill, one of the largest Hancock growers, declared. Yorks have been least hit by the drop, he said. ‘The peach crop in other sections of | the valley, however, was reported in fine condition and indications pointed to a bumper one with good prices in pros- pect, due to the shortage of the Georgia peach crop.
