NEW YORK, April 13.— Albert Levering, illustrator and painter, died of heart disease yesterday at his apart- ment in the Hotel Chelsea. He was 60 years old and had been ill for several weeks. Levering's wife, the former Frances Jewell of Bloomfleld, N. Y., whom he married in 1905, was with him when he collapsed as he was seated in a chair. Mr. Levering, the son of Levi Lemuel Levering, studied architecture with. his father and aleo studied drawing in Munich. He practiced nrchltecwre for several years in San Antonio, Tex., then abandoned that fleld and became a newspaper artist. He had been con- nected with the Minneapolis Times, the Chicago Tribune, the New York Amer- ican and also had been on the staff of Puck, Life and Harper's Weekly. After several years he left newspaper work to become a successful book and ma e illustrator, but later returned to the newspaper field. By the Associated Press. - MANAGUA, Nicaragua, April 15.—A second leutenant and two non-commis- sloned Marine officers were killed Sat- urday afternoon in an airplane crash at Lake Nicaragua, near San Carlos. They were: Second Lieut. James Beaty McHugh, Clemson College, A . Piner, Roanoke, Miller, Pittsburgh, Pa. Lieut, Mcflugh was plloting the ma- chine, while Sergt. Piner was the pho- tographen McHugh enjoyed an excel- lent reputation as an all-round pilot and was highly esteemed by his fellow officers as a Marine combat man. The three men were attached to the 2d Marine Brigade. ‘The men were making a mosaic of the proposed Nicaraguan Canal, when their plane, a Marine lmphibun type CL-8, crashed. The cause of the accident was not learned by Marine headquarters. Bodies of the victims were placed on a lake steamer for Granada, where they will be transferred to a train for Man- agua and subsequent transportation to the United States.
