Peter Rabbit was, as usual, full of questions. Honker the Goose, who had just arrived with his flock in the pond of Paddy the Beaver, deep in the Green Forest, chuckled as Peter's questions poured forth. “Wouldn't you give a fellow a chance to eat?” demanded Honker. Peter looked a bit sheepish. “‘Certainly,” said he. “Of course. But u will tell me the news when you have ad your dinner, won't you?” “If there is any to tell, I will,” replied Honker. “Now, if you will excuse me, T'll see what I can find to eat.” So Honker joined some of the cther *WOULD'NT YOU GIVE A FELLOW A CHANCE TO EAT?” DEMANDED HONKER. members of his flock, and there was a great gabbling as they searched for food along the edge of the pond. They found it, too, and it was a treat. You see, Farmer Brown's Boy had been over there, and he had scattered corn, for he knew that Honker and his flock were about due, and there was also the BY THORNTON W. BURGESS over there and scattered it in the water, that they might be sure to find it when they arrived. PFinally Honker swam back to where Peter was sitting on the dam. “That was the best meal I've had since I started North,” said Honker as he preened his feathers. “Yes, sir, that was the best meal I've had since I started North.” “Then perhaps you'll stay a few days,” said Peter. “Perhaps,” replied Honker. “That all depends on the weather. We want to get home as soon as we can.” “Home!” said Peter, “Home! Where do you call home?” Honker looked at Peter in surprise. “Why, way up North, of course. Away up North, where we go every year. ‘Where else would it be?” Peter scratched his nose. “Well, sald he, “it seems to me queer to call a place where you spend the smallest part of your time ‘home.’ You spend more time down in the South than you do there. I should think you'd call the South ‘home.’” “Peter,” replied Honker, “what is your idea of home?” “Why,” sald Peter slowly, “the place where you live.” y “Sometimes it is,” said Honker, “but not always. Home is where your heart is. It is where those you care for have grown up with you. My home is where my nest is every year and where my children are born, and that is up in the Far North. We go down South because we cannot live in the frozen North in the Winter. If we could, we wouldn't go South. We love the North. We do not love the South. That is why we do not nest there. So, now that it is Spring, we are eager to get back home.” “Did the hunters with their terrible guns make you much trouble this year?” “Not on our way up,” replied Honker, “but on our way down last Fall it was terrible. It is a wonder to me that I to me that eny of us are alive. It used to be just as bad in the Spring, but now they no longer shoot at us in the Spring. But they more than make up for it in the Fall. Yes, sir, I certainly shall be glad to get home, and every member of am alive this minute.
