STAR, WASHI €., THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 1929, WIDOW OF 1812 WAR VETERAN, 101, DIES Mrs. Sarah Jane Foster Ex- pires at Home of Son and Daughter. Mrs. Sarah Jane Foster, oldest Mdow of a veteran of the War of 1812, died yesterday at her residence in the Ken- esaw Apartments, Sixteenth and Irving streets, at the age of 101. Until re- cently Mrs. Foster has enjoyed good health and has been able to take an interest in affairs. Born in Charles County, Md, No- vember 14, 1827, she came to Washing- ton when a young woman and has re- sided in the Capital most of her life. When Mrs. Foster moved to this city the population was 8,000, and she es- tablished her residence on New Jersey avenue, across the street from the home of the Pennsylvania Representative, Thaddeus Stevens. Soon after her marriage to Adams Foster she moved to Connecticut to live. Her husband took up the practice of law in Pennsylvania and died in 1860 at New Haven, Conn. Following his death Mrs. Foster returned to Wash- ington to make her home with her daughter, Miss Jane Adams Foster, and her son, Dr. Romulus Adams Foster, a physician at the Kenesaw. Mrs. Foster had four children—two of them twins, Dr. Foster and Remus Foster, the latter now dead. Elizabeth Foster, another daughter, also is dead. Mrs. Edith Maude McCallum, the daughter of Remus Foster, now lives at Atlantic City, N. J. Dr. Foster is unmarried. Adams Foster, the veteran of the War of 1812, served as confidential sec- | retary to Commodore John Rogers on | the frigate President. He traced his ancestry to Flemish forbears, and his ancestor, Reginald Foster, was among those who came to America aboard the vessels of King Charles 1. He then set- tled in Ipswich, Mass. Adam Foster's paternal grandfather, Capt. James Fos- ter of Reading, Mass., served as a lieu- tenant in the 5th Company of the 2d Regiment of Militia, in Middlesex Coun- ty, and was made captain in the 4th Regiment in 1791. Mrs. Foster is survived by her daugh- ter, granddaughter and her son. Fu- neral services will be held at her late residence on Snturday SCHEEK RENAMED ASSOCIATION HEAD Dahlgren Terrace Body Will Hold | Another Election Next May, Andrew F. E. Scheek was last night re-elected president of the Dahlgren Terrace Citizens' Association at the an- nual meeting in the Soclal Oyster House. In accordance with the revised by-laws of the association, he and the other of- ficers will only serve until next May, golvaever when another election will be el ‘The others elected last night were: D. L. James, first vice president; Mrs, E. M. Leach, second vice president; J. D. Kingsbury, treasurer, and Miss Rrances W. Barnes, secretary. The association asked that the play- ground at Eighteenth and Otis streets northeast be immediately improved, and also that improvements be begun in the Girard Street Park. Indorsement was given to the Cramton bill for the imme- diate purchase of public parks for the District, On recommendation of its police and fire committee, the xrvugl approved the selection of the site north of Rhode Is- land avenue between Fourteenth and Fifteenth streets northeast for the new fire house for the community. ‘The citizens placed themselves on record as favoring any bill that would provide for an increase in the pay of firemen. BUS LINE LOSS CITED. Public Utilities Commission Told Cleveland Park Route Costly. ‘The Cleveland Park coach line of the Capital Traction Co. has lost $18,- 976 since it was put into operation in November, 1927, a report by J. ‘D, Murray of the Public Ut\liues Com- mission’s accounting bureau, made pub- lic today, shows. Mr. Murray called attention to the figures in his report and pointed out that they had an adverse effect upon the return earned by the company's| Bl system. He suggested no course of ac- tion to the commission, but at a meet- ing today the commission decided against ordering the line abandoned for the present. The matter taken up again after the present session of Congress. The delay was allowed to see what action is taken on the pro- posqid merger of the street car com- panies. The Red River Bridge Co. of Texas today filed suit for an injunction in the District of Columbia Supreme Court against Dwight F. Davis, Secretary of ‘War, to prevent the putting into opera- tion of a recent order reducing the toll for automobliles crossing its bridge near Denison, Tex., into Oklahoma. The company charges that the action of the Secretary in reducing from 75 cents to 35 cents the toll for automobiles is an attempt to regulate profits instead of Iregulatlnl charges, and will seriously affect the revenues of the company. — i _FOUND.
