16 KIONAPED MAN AIDS IN ARRESTS Forced to Drive Trio From Washington to New Jersey at Point of Gun. Retaining his nerve, even after being kidnaped in his own car and held cap- tive at the point of a pistol for nearly | 10 hours, Raymond L. Schwenk, 29 years old, of 1447 East Capitol street, yesterday morning assisted New Jersey police in arresting two women and a man whom he says forced him to drive to Penn Grove, N. J., after he had given them a “lift” here. The trio, who are being held for the local authorities, described themselves as Elmer Altizer, 31, and his wife, Sadie, 21, and Helen Woxnick, 20. An- other man, known only to Schwenk as “Boswell,” at whose home the others were captured, was also taken into cus- tody and questioned by the New Jersey authorities. Local police say that Altizer and Miss ‘Woxnick have police records. Hailed at Midnight. Desire to get out of the city was the only motive which Schwenk could give today as the cause for the three per- sons forcing him to drive them so far. He was hailed by one of the women as he was returning home about mid- night Tuesday from his work as driver for the Carry Ice Cream Co. The man asked Schwenk to “do him a favor” by driving him and his companions to their home in Hyattsville, stopping on the way at an address in the 1300 block of B street southeast to get some bed- ding. Schwenk, apparently in an obliging| mood, agreed to do that “favor.” When they got to Hyattsville, the Washington man says he was told they lived in Laurel. Schwenk said he could not drive them that far. “Oh, yes, you can,” he quotes Altizer as replying as he drew a gun and lev- eled it at him. RAYMOND L. SCHWENK. —Star Staff Photo.
