BY SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. 'ROM now until March 4 Washington society will lead a strenuous existence, rushing pell mell from event to event, with luncheon and dinner parties growing larger and larger as the need for relieving one’s social obligations grows more urgent. Only the more formal official and diplomatic parties will maintain their normal size, but with the naval and military reception at the White House Thursday of next week being perhaps the largest of all White House entertainments for this season. 'I'BE President and Mrs. Coolidge have proven themselves admirable hosts all through their administration of social affairs in the White House and that they are appreciated was shown in a spon- taneous outburst of of applause as they left the blue room at the close of the congressional reception Thursday night. Perhaps never before was there a demonstration of this kind at a state reception and it brought smiles to the faces of the President, the First Lady of the Land and all of the cabinet members in line. TE!: annual dinner to the Speaker will be given Thursday night, closing the list of official dinners and, as at each of the other state dinners, a musical will follow, when there will be additional g:sts. At least one large breakfast or luncheon party awaits Mrs. lidge outside the White House—the annual breakfast of the Con- gressional Club, February 4, when she will be the guest of honor. g ee ol Vice President and Mrs. Dawes, who started the week by dining with the Ambassador of Great Britain and Lady Isabella Howard, who had asked a very distinguished company to meet them, were the guests at an even larger dinner arty Tuesday night when the President’s Secretary and Mrs. Everett Sanders were hosts. Friday night they dined with the Ambassador of Germany and Frau von Prittwitz und Gaffron, and all week they have dined ss1d been enter- tained outside their own home and have had time to entertain a highly interesting house party of young kinsfolk. MOST interesting of future events will be the Bal Boheme of the Arts Club of Wa.shmgton, to be held at the Willard Hotel and occupying the entire top floor of the hotel on the night of January The setting will show the best of Egyptian art and in harmony will be the costumes of the guests, which will range from the rich raiment of Egyptian rulers of all periods to the dress of all classes and even pattern is being taken from the Egyptian mummies in the National Museum with which to enliven the scene. A BALL of another kind will be the exclusive International Assembly Tuesday night in the same ballrooms to be occupied by the Arts Club ball. Instead of the riches of Egyptian history, there will be kings and queens, Colonial governors, Presidents and First Ladies of the White House; Virginia Cavaliers, New England Puritans and Knickerbocker Dutch to parade the board. The official hostesses of the ball, headed by Mrs. Henry F. Dimock, will head the receiving line, the ball opening at 10 o'clock. There will be a seated supper.
