-APACHE MASSACRE OF BAND FEARED " Lone Rider Seeks Trace of 11 Who Sought to Wipe Out Indians. By the Associated Press. PHOENIX, Ariz., January 12—Fears that the members of a punitive expedi- tion against the descendants of Chief Geronimo's wild band of Apaches had been massacred by the Indians were expressed here today after municipal authorities in Agua Prieta, across the border from Douglas, had sent a rider into the Sierra Madre Mountains in the hope of tracing the party® The rider, Policeman Jesus Valdez of Agua Prieta, set out last night on in- structions from the presidente muni- cipal to back track over the trail of a member of the expedition, who was found wandering and half delirious yes- terday, south of Agua Prieta. ‘This man, Ramon Quejada, who was one of the 11 members of the Francisco Fimbres Expedition, which left Agua Prieta eight days ago with a commission from the governor of Sonora to wipe out the marauding Indians, was not able to tell a connected story, but said he had left the Fimbres party last Wednes In marching against the Apaches, ; Fimbres hoped to avenge the death of his wife and the capture of his son. The ‘Fimbres family was attacked from am- bush about two years ago and the son Is believed to have been carried away by the Indians after they had kmed the mother. Quejada said the expedition had en- tered the Sierra Madre Mountains and hld to make its way through deep snow, e said. vnldez was ordered to report back next Monday. Cowboys and soldiers were gathered at strategic points today and Presidente Municipal Loreta said that he might lead additional forces south before Valdez reports. | SARAJEVO.
