However, in view of the situation cre- ated by the publicity given the affair I am desirous of offering at this time to resign as a member of the grand jury if such action would save em- barrassment to that body.” Makes Denial of Charges. ‘The statement submitted by Mr. Ontrich read as follows: “I respectfully submit to your honor that my conduct on the inspection tour of Lorton and Occoquan Reformatories was above reproach. The unfortunate occurrence wherein the driver of the car in which I was riding was arrested for speeding, in which case a charge was made against me of intoxication, and the consequent publicity given the case have created considerable embar- rassment to myself, the court and other members of the grand jury. “I submit to your honor that neither myself nor the other occupants of the acter during this inspection.” As soon as Chief Justice McCoy ar- rived at the courthouse this morning he held a conference with United States Attorney Rover and Assistant United States Attorney Wiliam H.
