ROME, December 17.—Pope Pius at the opening of a secret consistory today extolled the Eucharistic Congress at Sydney, New South Wales, as one of the most striking manifestations of Catholicism anywhere in the world in recent years. The congress formed the sole subject of the Pope’s allocution. ‘The pontiff voiced particular pleas- ure at the attitude of non-Catholic Australians who contributed to the suc- cess of the gathering. The Pope’s allocution was the fea- ture of this morning’s secret consistory, since no new cardinals were created and proclaimed.
