SQUAD IS DETAILED T0 PROTECT STORES Charles J. P. Weber Heads Detec- tives Assigned to War on Christmas Shoplifters. Detective Charles J. P. Weber has been designated by pector Henry G. Pratt, chief of detectives, to take charge of a detail for duty in the shopping district during the Christmas holiday rush. ‘The -corps will be composed of | men picked from the several precincts | who will report at police headquarters | each morning and night to make re- ports and recelve instructions. It will be the duty of the squad to protect merchants from shoplifters and | §$tore patrons from pickpockets. In addi- | tion to the squad under the <uperxL§ion D of Detective Weber, there will be sev- eral policewomen on duty in and about the stores. Heretofore, it is stated, members of the special Christmas holidny squad suc- ceeded in protecting the rrcperty of merchants each season he amount of thousands of dalllrl Mlny arrests were made and much property re- covered. Police intend to arrest all persons found pilfering _in stores during the holiday season.
