Funeral services for John William Exline, who died suddenly Friday from apoplexy, were conducted at his resi- dence, 213 Eighth street southwest, this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Exline, who was a sales manager for the Schneider Baking Co., was stricken while seated in his automo- bile in a garage near his home where he had gone to take his 2-year-old grandson for a ride. He was rushed to Emergency Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was 61 years old. DAVIS DIES IN SAN FRANCISCO Manager of Postal Telegraph Co. at Capitol Was With Hoover Party. Ira A. Davis, manager at the Capitol for ihe Postal Telegraph Co., who ac- companied the Hoover party from ‘Washington to the Pacific Coast, died suddenly in a San Francisco Hotel early yesterday morning, according to word received here. Death is believed to have been due to -heart disease. He was 40 years old. Mr. Davis had a severe heart attack while the Hoover train was crossing the Rockies at an altitude of 10,000 feet, but he appeared to have recovered, it was learned today from a starf corre- spondent of The Star with the Hoover Mr. Davis became ill again Sat- | night, however, and a physician | was summoned. The doctor was with him when he died. His wife, Mrs. Carrie Davis, received & telegram from Mr. Davis early yester- day morning saying he had been de- tained in San Francisco. At 7:30 Mrs. Davis received a telegram from hotel authorities saying that Mr. Davis was seriously ill and had been taken to a hospital. About half an hour later a message was received telling of his death. Mr. Davis was widely known at the Capitol, and numbered among his friends many members of the newspaper fraternity. He resided here with hi family at 1419 R street. The body will be taken to the home of his mother, Mrs. Annie R. Davis, Rosemont, Va. Born in Stroudsburg, Va., Mr. Davis went to Alexandria, Va., at an early age. He was married in 1907, and during his entire married life served the Postal Telegraph Co. in this city except during the World War, when he joined the Navy and served as a wireless operator. He was stationed at the Navy Depart- ment and at Hampton Roads. Mr. Davis was a member of the Moose and the Maccabees and of the Mount Vernon Place M. E. Church. Besides his widow and mother he is survived by a daughter, Miss Anne F. Davis; a son, Baxter Davis, 15, a stu- dent at Columbia Junior High School; a sister, Miss Bessie I. Davis of Rose- mont, Va., and three brothers, Virgil C. Davis of Braddock, Va.; Naamon Davis of Alexandria and Louis Davis of Wash- ington. Clinton Inquest Wednesday. By the Associated Press. ROCKVILLE, Md, November 12.— Investigation of the Silver Spring National Bank robbery of October 27, in which a young woman was wounded and $2,200 taken but mostly recovered with the arrest of Hugh L. McDaniels of Takoma Park, was started this morning by the November grand jury shortly after its formation. Five witnesses were heard, including Police Sergeants Guy Jones and Earl Burdine, Policeman Joseph Nolte, Fred L. Lutes, assistant cashier of the bank | and Charles E. McFarlane, driver of the taxicab in which the bandit escaped after firing. McDandels is charged with the theft of $2,200 and assaulted witha deadly weapon upon Lutes. A young woman was slightly wounded about the ear by a stray shot. The grand jury report on the hold-up is expected to be made tomorrow morning. $ ‘The November term of the Circuit Court for the county began here this morning with Judge Robert B, Peter on the bench. LOCKWO0D Funeral Services Will Be Held To- morrow for Employe of Com- mere¢e Commission. William M Lockwood, chief disburs- ing clerk of the Interstate Commerce' Commission, where he had been em- ployed since 1910, died from a heart attack at his residence, 1121 Euclid street, Saturday night. He had been in failing health for about a year. Mr. Lockwood was born in Love- land, Clermont County, Ohio, Decem- ber 15, 1860. As a young man he was_connected with various railroads at Cincinnati. Following his marriage in 1893, he came to Washington and served as an auditor for the Southern Railway. Becoming connected with the Inter- state Commerce Commission in 1910, he served as traveling auditor and later as purchasing agent. He was made chief disbursing clerk about five years ago. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Flora D. Lockwood; two sons, Daniel H. and Willlam D.
