34 VARNEY AND SMITH SEEK POLICE POST Nominated in Race for Presidency of Association—Election Next Month. : Sergt. Milton D. Smith of the Traffic Bureau and Détective Frank A. Varney will be opposing candidates for the office of president of the Policemen’s As- sociation at the annual election the first ‘Tuesday in December. Sergt. Smith served two terms as president prior to three years ago and recently receiv- ed the highest vote of any candidate for membership of the general board of the association. Detective Varney has never before been a candidate for office in the association. Nominations were made at a meet- ing of the association held in Pythian Temple last night. W. A. Schotter and W. F. McDuffie were nominated for the position of first vice president, and W. F. Als and J. L. Billman were | chosen to compete for the second vice president. J. E. Wilson, who has served the as- sociation as financial secretary the past 16 v: d~clined another term, and THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, J. T. Hendricks and G. 8. Chrisman were nominated for the office. W. C. Adcock was unopposed for the office of treasurer. J. E. Talbert and J. E. Ma- haney were nominated for the posi- tion of trustee. MOROS KILLED IN FIGHT. | MANILA, November 9 (#).—Two Moros were killed and many wounded | when they attacked the constabulary station at Ganassi, Lanao, on November 6. Two constabulary soldiers and one policeman were serlously wounded in the assault. The news was received| yesterday in an official report saying the clash was due to tax collection and school attendance regulations. | ‘The attacking Moros were_dispersed and the region was quieted.
