LONDON, October 31 (#).—A resolu- tion advising the King to withdraw roy- al assent to the appointment of the Most Rev. Cosmo Gordon Lang as Arch- bishop of Canterbury has been passed by the Protestant Alliance and the League of Royal Churchmen. There was only one dissenting vote at a joint meeting in Caxton Hall. The resolution asserted that after royal assent had been given, Dr. Lang announced his intention of breaking the | l]aw and disregarding the will of the House_of Commons. Dr. Lang, who is now Archbishop of York, and the Most Rev. Randall Thomas Davidson, present Archbishop of Canterbury, recently issued a joint statement which permitted the use of the 1928 revision of the prayer book in those parishes. Things Are Happening at Jelleff’s THREAT CHARGE LAID TO SLAYER SUSPECT Widow Alleges in Warrant That Killer of Husband Said He Would Take Her Life. By the Assoclated Press. NASHVILLE, Tenn, October 31.— State’s attorneys last night moved to perfect their case against Walter L. Lig- gett, 29, who Monday night killed Tur- ney M. Cunningham, 38, manager of the Andrew Jackson Hotel here. Lig- gett yesterday was released under $25,000 bond and immediately was named in a peace warrant sworn to by Mrs. Always A bold made Cunningham, who charged him with threatening her life. Officers had a signed statement from Mrs. Cunningham, they announced, ad- mitting attentions from Liggett, a grain dealer, over a period of two years and testimony from the woman’s 16-year- old daughter Ovella to the same effect. Earl Kiger, a private detective, told officers he was with Cunningham when he was slain. ‘While other parties questioned by po- lice talked freely of the tragedy, Lig- gett maintained the silence he has kept since his arrest 15 minutes after firing five bullets into Cunningham's body, when they met back of the latter’s home. Have you been here recently? ‘The eating habits of the American ople are shifting rapidly in the direc- tion of more fruit, vegetables and milk, aecording to the market statistics of the principal cities, Bailey T. Burritt, gen- eral director of the Association for Im- proving the Condition of the Poor, told the society last night. There has been a 600 per cent increase in the consump- tion of oranges alone in the past 10 Yyears, he said. The great improvement brought about by dietary education in the South was described by Dr. Joseph Goldberger of the United States Public Health lab- \ oratory, whose investigations brought about the conquest of pellagra. The pellagra death rate, he pointed out, used to shift up and down with economic conditions and was due to diets lacking in Vitamin B, particularly among chil- dren. Other Topics Discussed. Col. Edward B. Vedder of Walter Reed Hospital told of the conquest of beri-beri, a tropical disease, after it was determined that it was due to a dietary deficiency. Dr. William Earl Clark and Dr. Wil- liam Mallory of Washington were speakers before the assoclation yester- day afternoon on diet in connection with diabetes and with disorders of the gastro-intestinal tract. _Therapeutic diets in hospitals were described by Katharine Mitchell Thoma of Chicago and Frances Stern of Boston spoke on meeting the dietary requirements of Yout-patients in clinics. Speakers this morning were Dr. Mal- tolm T. MacEachern of the American College of Surgeons and Lucy H. Gillett of New York. The association members were Tre- iceived by Mrs. Coolidge at the White ‘House at noon today. *FORMER MIDSHIPMAN INDICTED IN ASSAULT William W.
