| ALONG REALTY ROW | News Briefs And Comment The Washington real estate market ghowed a stronger tone in the past month than during any time during the Summer, according to a statement made today by Rufus S. Lusk, ex- ecutive secretary Operative ors' Associa- on_the basis of a sales survey just_completed. Mr. Lusk reports that the survey showed that 181 new dwellings were sold during’ Sep- tember. This fig- ure, he said, Is higher than the sales record for new houses during the past four in the District in each of the past four mdnths. The survey by the Operative Build- ers’ Association bears out beliefs being voiced by a number of real estate oper- ators that the Fall, would bring a stronger market here. The recession in building of houses last Fall and Winter is believed partly the cause of the im- provement in the housing market. * % ki Fire-prevention week opens tomorrow, providing food for serious thought, for though great progress has been made in the reduction of fire hazards through educational work and preventive efforts by our fire fighters, devastating losses are reported annually. A study by the Na- tional Lumber Manufacturers’ Associa- tion shows this to be the first time in seven years that there has been an actual dollar decline in America’s an- nual losses by fire. This improvement is held to be especially important when it is considered that during this same year period more than $7,000,- WOODRIDGE Detached Home—Two Baths 1808 Kearney St. N.E. M. C. A, under the auspices of the Washington Real Estate Board, beginning October 15, is a part of the nation-wide educational movement in- augurated some years ago by the Na- tional Association of Real Estate Boards. The Y. M. C. A. course, to be con- ducted by John A. Petty, secretary of the local realty board, is outlined to give a composite picture of the actual workings of a modern real estate office. Various branches of the real estate business are subjects of lectures, in- cluding ethics, appraisals, zoning, tities and legal actions. i Property owners and those contem- | plating home ownership, it is pointed out by Mr. Petty, attend the classes, as well as those engaged in the real estate business or planning to enter the fleld.
