October 5.— Branded as Communists, five members of the United Brotherhood of Carpen. ters and Jolners of America were ex- pelled from the organization yesterday by delegates attending the twenty- second annual convention at the new mnational home here. The ousted men were former mem- bers of Local 376, New York, the charter of which was revoked for alleged irregu- larities by the general board of the brotherhood, and until their expulsion had been members of Local 1164, New Fork. ‘They are Morris Rosen, Nathan Rosen, this brother; Thomas Schneider, Robert Golden and Joseph Lapidas. ‘The vote for expulsion was unani- ous. Morris Rosen was granted the floor to_state his case, although under the rules he was not eligible to speak, not being a delegate. Rosen charged the charter of Local 376 had been revoked and that the local had been persecuted. Secretary Duffy then stated the his- Cory of the trouble. DETROIT, October 5—Sale of stock in damages to be awarded him in an alleged mythical law suit involving millions of dollars resulted in the ar- rest here yesterday by C -il R. Snyder; president “of the Automobile Abstract Title Company of Detroit, on charges of violating the Michigan Blue sky law. The arrest was made on a warrant issued on recommendations of the local | Better Business Bureau, and specifically charges that the organization securities commission. According to officials of the bureau the company sold upward of $500,000 worth of stock. Snyder, according to investigators, made the sales on the strength of his sold | stock without the approval of the State; Millions. assertions that all certificates of title to automobiles issued in the various States were issued in violation of a patent on system granted to him by the Gov- ernment. Snyder told his clients, investigators charge, that he planned suit against the various States for damages totaling millions of dollars. Last July, it is | charged, he sent circulars to stockhold- ers in his company informing them that a large dividend was to be de- clared. He also is alleged to have told the stockholders he was writing gov- ernors of various States forbidding them to issue more certificates of title. He is alleged to have intimated’ to stock purchasers that a number of States were willing to settle the claims against them out of court for amounts totaling millions. At the same time, it is charged Sny- der offered additional stock at 10 cents per share, representing to purchasers that it would soon be worth from $100 to $500 & share. Snyder, according to police, was con- victed on a similar.charge in 1924 and was arrested in connection with stock transactions in 1919, but the latter cass was nolle prossed. Snyder's company was organized as a common law trust and he was named as trustee. Central Union Mission Declines to | Enter Communtiy Fund. Concourring in the action of its.board of directors the Ministerial Council of the Central Union Mission unanimously voted Monday to have the mission de-| cline the invitation to join the Com- munity Chest. The fact that, as “the mission of the churches” the Central Union Mission is fundamentally a re- liglous organization, was given as the | reason for the council’s action. ‘The council is composed of pastors of ‘more than a hundred Washington churches.
