October 5—Senator Curtis, the Republican vice presidential | nominee, campaigned through the thickly poulated Calumet region of northern Indiana today on an automo- bile tour with State party candidates. After a day of play yesterday, when he went to Lincoln Fields race track to watch the horses run, the Senator was back to the political grind in earnest with a schedule carrying him to Gary, Ind., where he is expected to speak to- night. The veteran campaigner, who reached Chicago carly this week considerably fatigued from his long and arduous trip through the West, undertook today’s as- signment with some reluctance and only { with the understanding that he would not be called upon for more than one | talk. He took his fun in picking the horses, but his only tip to the friends who besieged him at the track was, “Keep your money in your pocket.” Upon his return tonight to Chicago, Curtis will spend tomorrow resting, and Sunday he will depart on a trip into North Dakota, Minnesota and Wis- consin, I THE WEATHER l District of Columbia—Showers to- night; tomorrow fair; slightly cooler; moderate south and southwest winds.
