* FRENCH THEATER HELD LOW IN WORLD ESTEEM Louis Thomas Declares Dramatists Rehash Triangle Plot, With Mechanical Themes. 'ARIS.—The French theater has gcople with an intimation that they ad better clean house. A French theater-goer, who pays in advance by reserving his seat, is penal- ized by being charged for reserving it. ‘Theaters, largely through belated cur- tains and long waits between acts, last until midnight, while they might just as well send people home, or to the “dancings” at 11 o'clock. DISORDERS IN VENEZUELA ENDED BY AUTHORITIES Imprisonment of 200 Students Brings Sympathy Strikes and General Strife. By the Assoclated Press. CARACAS, Venezuela, March 2.— ‘Transportation and telephone services were suspended and disorders occurred in the streets when strikes were de- clared in sympathy with the imprison- ment of university students. Energetic action by the authorities has restored order and conditions now are normal. During the festivities of Students’ week certain university students were alleged to have made speechs reflect- lnr on the government. Their arrest followed. Others of the student body insisted that if thelr comrades were not released they also should be impris- oned. and about 200, who surrendered to the authorities, were locked up. Correspondence of the Assoclated Press, LONDON, England.—In an effort to bring about uniformity in the teaching of dancing, and to test the merits of the many new dances which are con- tinually being brought forward, five of the leading teachers in the English dancing world have formed themselves into a sort of board of control. One of the chief aims is fewer and better new dances. Every time a new step comes in they will in future meet to discuss it and arrange that all shall teach the same thing. This decision has been taken because so much con- fusion has arisen in the past among teachers every time a new dance was introduced. The confusion became ac- finm;ua with the latest step, the Yale lues.
