The Municipal Playg d Depart. ment is inaugurating with considerable | success & program of interschool ath- letics 1n a dozen schools under the rection of Miss Maude Parker, head of girls' activities, and R. S. Tennyson, hbead of boys' activities. | At the Chery Chase School last year this new feature worked out so success- | fully that it was decided to continue | it in as many schools as practicable. ‘The purpose is to stimulate interest in a larger number of pupils by organizing base ball and basket ball leagues in the different grade schools. “The teams. however, are being con- fined to the pupils of the fifth to eighth grades, inclusive, making eight classe: in each school whose members have been enrolled in some form of active | outdoor sport. At the Park View School, for instance. 14 boy base ball and basket ball teams have: been organized and 14 schlag teams for girls. These teams play class matches for the school championship. In this way, a nucleus of well trained | sthletes will be formed from students | who enter the high schools with eyes | on membership in the “big league"| teams. G. W. U. IS NAMED IN MRS.
