ROUTE SELECTED FORNEW HIGHWAY | Road to Link Bethesda and Silver Spring to Be Built This Year. The route that the new paved high- | way to be built this Summer in subur- ban Montgemery County and which will connect the business sections of Bethesda and Silver Spring was fixed yesterday after Dr. Benjamin C. Perry of Bethesda and Lacy Shaw of Silver Spring and enginéers of the Maryland State Roads Commission and Maryland National Park and Planning Commis- sion made an inspection trip over the| section the road will follow. The new highway. to be built over | the shortest possible route between | Bethesda and Silver Spring, will cover | a distance of approximately 4 miles be- | tween the business sections of the com- | munities. This will cut the present dis- | tance about 4!, miles. | Begins at Wisconsin Avenue. i ‘The new road begins at the intersec- tion of Wisconsin avenue and Old Georgetown road, in the center of the Bethesda district, and proceeds east by way of Watkins avenue across the freight line of the Baltimore & Ohio | Railroad on a proposed bridge at the top of a 25-foot cut. The road will pass the south side of the Columbia Country Club by way-of | Cypress street, and will extend slightly | northeast across the new subdivision of the Chevy Chase Land Co. now being graded on the old Watkins tract located | east of Connecticut avenue, as far as| Brookeville road. After crossing Rock Creek the pro- posed road continues east past the Ray Brothers’ farm to the top of a crest on the east boundary of the Pproperty; thence the route continues easterly into a long and practically Straight valley with a favorable grade on the property of Charles C. Glover, Touches Corner of District. ‘The road then enters the C. A. Snow property, touching the northern corner of the District, making connection at that point with the intersection of Eastern and Western avenues as laid out on the permanent highway plan of the District of Columbia. The road then crosses Sixteenth street at the District of Columbia-Maryland bound- ary line across the preperty of Mont- gomery Blair. The last section of the road will also serve as a link in the first northern extension of Sixteenth street, by which Toute it is proposed to extend Sixteenth street 1o Georgia avenue and the Coles- ville-Baltimore road route in the northern end of the Silver Spring busi. ness section.
