DENVERDISTRICT STATIONS CHANGED U. S. Radio Commission Orders Sweeping Shake-Up After Series of Hearings. A sweeping shake-up in the opera. tion of eleven broadeasting stations in Denver and vieclnity was ordered by the Federal Radio Commission yesterday to take effect November 1. The changes, Soming after a series of public hearings in Denver last month, -were decided upon in the hope of clearing - up congestion of the wave bands in the mountain re e most important change was that affecting Station KOA, Denver, :)h!oh v-..a\nl)::rx-ea to continue T O its present frequency of 920 kilocyoles, Dt 10 uss & maxl mum power. of 5,000 watts only be tween the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 pm., reducing this to 2,500 watts between 6 pm. and 6 am. *“The commission fully recognizes the admirable service rendered by Station KOA, and the desirability of giving this station greatly increased power if its transmitter is moved,” the order sald, “but holds that the location of its transmitter in rela- tion to the residential sections of Denver is not such as to make the use of mare than 2,600 wvatts at night in the public interest. Station KLZ I8 Moved. Station KL% was permitted to move from. Denver to Dupont, Colo, and upon establishing the plant there, to operate on 760 kilocycles with a magimum power of 1,000 watts. Stations KOW and KFEL of Denver were placed on a frequency of 1,210 kilocycles, assigned 250 watts power each and ordered to share time equally with each other, Two other broadcasters directed to divide time were Stations KFXF, Den- ver, and KFUM, Colorado Springs. The former will keep its present fre. guency of 1,060 kilocycles, but ‘was or- ered to operate on & maximum power of 260 watts. The latter was assigned a similar frequency and a power out- put of 1,000 watts. Statfon KGEY, Denver, was author- ized to move to Westminster Hill and to increase its power from 15 to 250 WAtts on its present wave band of 1,490 kilocycles.
