NEW YORK, September 10.—A man giving the name of Thomas Hewitt, jr., and claiming to have served in both the French and American air s ces during the war, was ar. r ed today before Magistrate Wil- liam Farrell, accused of passing a worthless check for $150. He was held witkout bail for examination Mnnday. He was arrested last night by De- tective McCarthy after Alfonso Graco had complained of his check. Ques- tioned by Inspector John D. Coughlin, he is said to have admitted passing the worthless check. It was during his conversation with Inspector Coughlin that he declared he was Thomas Hewitt, jr., and that he had been an aviator during the war. Lafayette Escadrille Member.
