WO STATES'PLAN STEPS TO SAVE OYSTER BEDS Maryland - Virginia Conference Next Friday One of Two Moves Aimed to Prevent Destruction. Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, August 27.—Two moves to save the Potomac River oyster beds from destruction are to be made next week, Swepson Earle, State conservation commissioner, an- nounced today. One is a conference between Maryland officials and mem- bers of the \Il'ghlla Seafood Survey Commission, to be held at Colonial Beach Friday. The other is a procla- matlon expected from Gov. Harry Flood Byrd of Virginia placing in effect on both sides of the river laws d-‘ ed to save small oysters and o effect replacement of empty shells on lhe rocks at the bottom of the river. This replacement, Mr, Earle pointed out, is necessary if the oyster spat is to cling there and grow. 1 Mr. Earle was invited to the con-| ference today by Harry R. Houston, | Virginia conservation commissioner, who said that topics of mutual in- terest to the two States, including the Potomac question, are to be discussed. | Mr. Houston added that Gov.
