FRESNO, Calif., December .—Four men prominent in Central and North- ern California were found guilty in Federal Court here on charges of ha ing used the malls to defraud in the exploitation of the Mitchell-Virden Lumber Company in Sonoma County. ‘W. D. Mitchell, former president of the Valley Bank, and candidate for the Republican nomination for gov- ernor this year, was sentenced to serve 15 months in Leavenworth prison and pay a fine of $1,000. Charles M. Virden, president of a packing company bearing his name, was found guilty on one count in the indictment and not guilty on five others. He was fined $1,000, which he pald. J. M.
