SEEKS T0 RESTRICT MEDICINAL LIQUER Gen. Andrews Says Legisla- tion Will Be Asked to Punish Offenders. Faced with what it considers inabil- Ity to control the situation, the Treas- ury will ask Congress for new legis- lation to restrict medicinal liquor. Every effort has been put forth by the Treasury, according to Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Andrews, in charge of prohibition, but the Gov- emment consistently has been de- feated in the court in its endeavors to bring punishment to alleged offenders of the present law. “Only new legislation can remedy the situation,” said Gen. Andrews. Under the present law, out, the owners of this medicinal liquor have a_comparatively small legal market. While many handlers of this liquor, he said, have undoubt- edly observed the law {n every respect, tiere have been some unscrupulous ones who have gone out to “drum up trade,” in order to increase the de- mand. This kind of liquor, for in- stance, he pointed out, may-~ be sold to permitees authorized by the Gov- ernment to use alcohol. Some of the liquor had found its way into hakeries for use in mince pie, Gen. Andrews gald. Many permitees had been using It and the opportunities for its diver- slon into fllegal channels were such that some means was needed to throw much tighter re tions about it. “BOYOLOGY” CLASSES POSTPONED TO JAN. 15 Present Fidancial Activities of Juvenilf Organizations Given as Cause of Delay.
