10 JOINT CELEBRATION Feast of Christ the King to Be Observed at Shrine Tomorrow Evening. A joint religious celebration by the affiliated Holy Name societies in this city will be held at the Shrine of the Imnmculate Conedption, Catholic Uni- versity, tomorrow evening at 7:30 «o’'clock. The occaslon of this religiou demonstration is the first public lebration of the feast of Christ the King, which whs added to the Catholic calendar last ar by Pope Plus XTI and assigned to the last Sunday in October. The decision to hold celebration of the new feast was made at a meeting of the Holy Name Union Jast Monday evening at St. Gabriel's Church, which was attended by 160 delegates from the 45 branches of the Holy Name Sociely in \ashington and vicinity. Cornellus Ford, presi- dent of the Washington section, pre- -dded d Mgr. P. C. Gavan, rector of the Sacred Heart Shrine and spiritual director of the Washington section, mmade the arrangements for the celebration. Sermon on “Christ the King.” Right Rev. T. J. Shahan, rector of the Catholic University, will preside and Mgr. Bernard McKenna of the Shrine will be master of ceremonies. The sermon; will be de- livered by Verv Rev. Iznatius Smith, prior of the Dominican House of Sudies and professor of philosophy at the Catholic University, who was formerly national director of the Holy Name Society in the United States. The service will consist of exposi- tion of the blessed sacrament by the ministers, the singing of O Salutaris Hostia,” and the chanting of the litany of the Blessed Virgin by the Dominican choir. This will be followed by the public recitation of the rosary and the impressive consecration of assembly to loyalty in Christ the King. The sermon will then be delivered by Father Smith. Following the sermon one of the most impressive scencs of the evening will take place, when the lights of the church will be extinguished and all the Holy Name members present, with lighted candles in their hands, will solemnly recite the Holy Name pledge. The service will conclude with the chanting of the litany of the Holy Name, benediction of the sed sacrament and the singing of “Holy God, We Praise Thy Name" by the entire assembly. The Baptist churches of Washing- ton have entered upon a campaign of evangelism to last all through the coming Winter, under the leadership of the Columbia Assoctation. Varlous features of the evangelistic program are being arranged. Next Tuesday and Wednesday a conference on evan- gelism will be held at _the First Bap- tist Church, when, in addition to lo- cal pastors and laymen, who will take | | part, Rev. Dr. W. H. Geistweit, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dayton, Ohio, and Rev. Dr. Publication Society, will speak. Both these men are well known throughout the Southern and Northern Conven- tions for their leadership in evan- gelistic effort. The conference each day will open at 4 o'clock; and there will be night sesslons beginning at 7:30 o'clock. Dinner will be served by the women of the First Baptist Church between the sessions each day. Thursday will be gbserved by each church as a day of prayer, and on Friday, December 3, all the churches will meet in an all-day prayer service to be held at Calvary Baptist Church. A union evangelistic campalgn is planned for February 20 to March 6.
