THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, Man Called “Varying Experimenter,” Woman “Conservative Stabilizer” of Race “Men and women are not ‘equal’ in any sense, but they are opposites that are complementary and of equal im- portance to each other,” Dr. William A. White, superintendent of St.’ Eliza- beth’s Hospital, said yesterday in ad- dressing the first luncheon of the sea- son at the Women's City Club, 22 Jackson place. “Man is the varying experimenter,” sald Dr. White, ““while woman is the ‘conservative stabilizer’ who will sal- vage from man’s efforts those quali- fications which will make better the specles.” The speaker said that while man might be called the “in- tellectual seeker” woman is the “in- tuitive finder The flapper, Dr. White believes, is a product of a condition brought about by the sudden release upon an unpre- pared society of a freedom and “emancipation that had been un- known.” The so-called ‘“modern woman,” he thinks is using her free- dom for the purpose of imitating man. This copying, he declares, is unneces- sary, since the woman has a sphere of her own. Dr. White declared himself to be extremely interested in woman's ac- tivities, over which the tendencies as tic as he regards the tendencles as benefiting the human race. Dr. A. Additional guards will be placed about the Hall of Justice and in Judge Blake’s courtroom when the hearing is resumed. Many of the letters were termcl ‘‘crank” letters by Judge Blake, these resorting to “prayerful supplications’ for justice to sister McPherson.
