September 18.— Successfully started on a $150,000-a- vear career as a grand opera singer, Marion Talley, 19-year-old daughter of a $150-a-month telegraph operator, is coming back to her Kansas City home with a double aim. She plans. first. to go to the back yard of the Talley home, on a modest Kansas City street, and dig up a lit- tle hox in which lies buried one of three canaries she brought to this country from Europe. LONDON, September. 18.—Search for two missing chemical elements lately reported discovered in Germany may have to be continued. From I sia comes word that a careful check- up on the elements rhenium and masurium fails to substantiate recent investigations. In June, 1925, Prof. Waiter Noddack of the University of Berlin, assisted by Ida Tacks and Otto Berg, reported that he found the characteristic X-ray spectra of the missing elements, num- bered 75 and 43 in the periodic tables, in platinum ores from the Ural Moun- tains. SUICIDES RATED HIGH. Brains Four Ounces Heavier Than Those of Other People. VIENNA, September 2 (Correspond- ence).—Brains of the average suicide are about four ounces heavier than the brains of other people, according to the findings of Dr. Pape and Dr. Kopelsky, who have weighed brains of 833 persons. None of the brains | of the suicides could be classed as lx:ht weight. They found that the brain of boys and girls are heavier than those of grown-ups.
