STAR, WASHINGTON, MUSIC TITO SCHIPA'S RECITAL Tito Schipa, one of the really great artists of both concert and operatic stages, gave a beautiful program at Poli's Theater yesterday before an audience that seemed to appreciate the finisk and beauty of his art. One has only to hear the first number in his excellent bel canto style to realize that this son of Italy {s a fitting com- patriot of the famous Caruso. Born in Lecce, with a debut in Rome in opera, Signor Schipa made his firat American appearance in “Rigoletto,” from which opera he sang the famous “La Donna e Mobile” as one of his general list of encores. The obening selection was Glordani's “Caro Mio Ben.” Signor S Pa gave lilting smoothness and rounded finish to the florld passages in a man- ner that is natural to only a Latin D. T, THURSD? “Martha,” followed, with “Il Sogno,” from “Manon,” as the encore. The next group included the typ- ically Handelesque “Where'er You " and Bateman's “A Wonderful in English, and Cesar Franck wonderful song, “Panis Angelicus,” in Latin. The latter was sung exquisite- lv. Signor Schipa was not 8o hap in pronouncing the words of the two | English songs, but his enunciation in an encor toger's arrangement of “At Parting,” was excellent and clear.
