P12 rmm@% . THE EVENING . STAR, WASHINGTON, D. €, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 1925. Fsrst Floor, factng elevators. Sketched by our artist. ERYICE is probably the most abused word in the English language, often rising to perfection, but more often sinking to perdition. . . . When we speak Separate Entrance for Men The 7th Street entrance will be re- tained especially for men, who will now have two separate foors upon which to shop. The first floor (old building), men’s furnishings and acces- sories; the second floor (old building), men’s clothing. The Ladies’ Rest Room Adjacent to Powder Box (the new beauty parlors) on 5th Floor. Here one may rest and contemplate upon the future, or ‘meet her friends, or telephone, or write a letter upon the stationery that will be provided. ol of the new services that our store will soon offer, we use the word to suggest those thousand and one conveniences that make shop- ping a pleasure both for our customers and our employees. . . . Al- though Mrs. Smith may not say, ‘“What a lovely store” if she visits us on Thursday, and then returns on Saturday, she has paid us her prettiest compliment. She has shown that she likes our store service; and that may mean the young ladies who waited on her, or the frocks she sent home, or the elevators, or the beautiful floors, or any other thoughtful touch. Shopping brought up to date We teach our sales force to be courteous, always to realize the value of a smile, yet we cannot corner the market on courtesy. . . . And so with Service. We have surveyed America and its best stores, analyzed the reasons for their success, employed the ablest architects, all with the thought to give to Washington a store that can offer shopping comfort at its best. Yet we will have no monopoly on Service—only that tireless desire to please you. We tell you this, so that when we do slip up (as we often shall) you will understand that it has hurt us more than you. You’ll like the elevators Ours is ‘the first installation in America (if not in the world) of what is known as unit control elevators—which means the operator pushes a button, the elevator doors close, the elevator rises to the next floor, stops and the doors open. All with one little push, thus giving the operator the chance to concentrate his entire time upon the com- fort of his passengers. _ The Bronze Clock Facing three square to the world yet reaching the four points of the com- pass. Western Union Time, syn- chronized with the clocks inside the store, so that the time throughout the entire store is always the same, and accurate. A IH» Some other new services are mentioned on this page, simply to suggest the modernity of Washing- ton’s Fastest Growing Department Store which will be formally opened early in November. THE HECHT Co ¥ STREET For Wrapping Your Gifts As it has been so aptly put “today is some one’s birthday,” and you must send him or her a gift. We shall be delighted to wrap it for you, no matter where it has been purchased, so it will look its best. Rural Deliveries Our greatly enlarged fleet of trucks is now equipped to make suburban de- liveries daily to include such points as Alexandria, Anacostia, Brookland, Braddock Heights. Points further away to be reached two and three times a week. Open a Charge Account In our new office floor, on the fourth, we have a specially-appointed division to take care of new charge accounts and we invite persons of responsibility to make use of this service. Many Telephone Booths Telephone booths on every floor so you can call up and see how the children are, or ask the cook if the butcher sent the roast. And if you shouldn’t happen to have a nickel our cashiers will gladly provide the change you need.
