THE SUNDAY VOLUME OF STEEL | BUSINESS GROWING Outlook for,Orders Consid- ered Favorable—Pig Iron Fairly Active in Market. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, August 15.—The vol- | ume of business in the steel market | appears to be growing slowly, but| steadily, and the outlook is considered | favorable. At 'the same time buyers are not making much provision for the tuture, while prices are only about steady. Pig fron is fairly active, but the demand is spotted. Prices are steady, but there is a good deal of German and Dutch iron offering at the seaboard, which has a tendency to_hold values down. Recent heavy purchases have been followed by a falling off in the demand for. copper and reactions in London have been accompanied by reports of continental _ holders. Prices locally have been shaded slight- | ly from the peak of the recent ad- vances, with moderate sales reported | at the 14%-cent level. Prior Bookings Steady Market. The large business previously booked, however, has strengthened the general position and the market was steadier at the end of the week, with producers quite generally hold- ing for 14%, although some copper still is said to be avallable at the lower figure. Tin declined below 58 cents for prompt Straits, following easiness in London and the Far East. Good buy- ing by consumers took place on the break, and with the general situation moderate rally. Lead has been advanced further by the leading producers, but prices in the outside market continued to com- mand a good premium. Producers are well up on contract delivery, but ap- parently have no surplus to offer. Aside from inquiries from cable inter- ests present demand is less active. Zine Losses Recovered. Zinc eased off slightly during the middle of the week, but rallied later and recovered the loss. The strong statistical situation and the higher ore prices, together wth a fairly liberal domestic demand, tends to keep prices firm. Antimony is a shade lower for spots and futures, owing to increased offer- ings from China. NEW YORK GRAIN PRICES. NEW YORK, August 15 (P).—Rye 1.15% f. o. b. . 1. £. export.
