By the Associated Press. MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 13.—Inves- tigation by a committee of five law- vers of published reports dealing with alleged banking transactions by Judge J. W. Ross of the Federal District Court for western Tennessee was agreed upon today. The People's Saving Bank of Jackson, Tenn., re- cently closed by order of the State banking department, is said to have carried an account of $32,000 for Judge Ross. Members of the Mem- phis and Shelby County Bar Assocla- tion adopted a resolution declaring it the “sense of propriety” of the asso- clation that Judge Ross absent him- self from the bench temporarily. Today's meeting was called at the request of 13 members of the asso- clation to determine the course to be pursued with regard to the published statements, which included reports that unpaid drafts and checks amounting to_ approximately $32,000 and bearing Judge Ross’ name had been found among the resources of the suspended bank. Two other drafts are sald to have been drawn on Memphis lawyers. To Form New Bank. i Plans for the liquidation of the bank and organization of another institu- tion to succeed it and preparations for a grand jury investigation con- tinued at Jackson. After reviewing published reports as to the drawing of drafts and declar- ing that it had been ‘repeatedly stated” that trust funds under con- trol of the court had been used “for the purpose of enabling the judge of said court to obtain personal advan- tage from their deposit,” the resolu- tions directed the appointment of a committee to conduct an investigation. The committee was instructed to give Judge Ross an opportunity to be represented at the hearings, both in person and by counsel, and to submit proof. No announcement was made tonight as to when the hearings would begin. ORGANIZATION AC'I;{’ITIES. The Wanderlusters’ hike will start from Benning race track at 2:30 o'clock.
