HOME TOWN HAILS ORATORY WINNER Sessions’ Return Is Triumph. Thousands Greet Bir- mingham Boy. 8pecial Dispatch to The Star. BIRMINGHAM, a., triumphantly 5 multitude greeted Robert ssions, champion high school orator of the United States, when he reached this city from Wash- ington, where he won first pla the national contest. His high turned out in a body accompanied by the cadet corps in uniform and three brass bands te welcome home the 15- year-old victor. So many persons were eager to con- gratulate Robert upon his victory in the national contest that he was un- able to make his way to his car for & full half hour. County and city of- ficials and members of the Phillips High School facuit fought for the right to shake Robert’s hand and tell him of their pride in his achievement. Winner Overwhelmed. “I am overwhelmed,” Robert gasp- ed. “I never expected all this was go- ing to happen, or I might have duck- ed through an alley and beat it home I'm hungry for some Alabama bis- cuits, anyhow Robert and his family were put in the leading car of a parade which had been arranged in his honor. More than 4,000 schoo®children took part in the parade. Thousands lined the streets to watch the victor go by. He beamed and beamed, end waved his hands in all directions. Leaders Welcome Youth. The parade proceeded 1o one of the Birmingham churches, where a pro gram had been arranged in his honor. The most prominent men of Birming ham voiced the congratulations of the city. When Robert was introduced he modestly gave credlt for his victory to the teachers who had helped him perfect himself in oratory. The clim: of the program came with the deliv ery of the prize-winning oration. Rob. ert's hearers found no difficulty in understanding how this unassuming high school boy had been acclaimed & world beater. The ovation at the con- clusion of the oration lasted fully five minutes. Many invitations to deliver his ad dress before c clubs and other groups had to be declined by as he wishes to resume hi work immediately. He has accepted an invitation to be present at the finals of the matfonal intercollegiate oratorical contest, which will be held in Los Angeles June Bible Course Is Extended. The Washington Bible School In- stitute will continue the institute work it has been carrying on until the opening of the Summer schools in the latter part of next month, it was anncunced.
