FORMER WASHINGTON CORRESPONDENT DIES Paul Wallace Hanna, Editor of New York Leader, Succumbs After Brief Illness. Paul Wallace Hanna, editor of the “New York Leader and former Wash- ington newspaper correspondent, died at his home in New York Tuesday; ac- cording to word received here. Mr. Hanna became critically i1l when he returned home from his office Monday evening. Mr. Hanna was born at Oxford, Pa., and gained his first experience as a newspaper reporter on the old Phila. delphia Telegraph. ' He later conduct- ed the newspaper campaign that re- sulted in the enactment of the first widows' pension law by the Pennsyl- vania legislature. He served in Washington as the correspondent of the New York Call, {a Socialist daily of New York, which, after having suspended publication | some years ago, was recently revived under his editorship as the Weekly Leader. When the Federated Press was or- ganized after the war as a telegraphic news service for labor papers, Mr. Hanna became its Washington cor- respondent. It was In this capacity that he accompanied President Wil- son to Europe and reported the Paris peace conference. He later attacked the newspaper conference system as developed by various cabinet officers, which led to his exclusion from State Department conferences by Secretary of State Colby. He is survived by his widow, Rosa Laddon Hanna; his mother, Mrs. Frank Hanna, and one brother. The funeral was held this afternoon at the home of his mother at Oxford, Pa. Countess of Westmoreland, member of British aristocracy, has taken to the concer! stage as a means of win- ning a livelihood. Funeral services®for Mrs. Louise Ruppert Eichhorn, a lifelong resident of the city, who died at her residence, 1824 Park road, Sunday night, were conducted at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with solemn high mass of requiem, yesterday.
