A new issue of 35,000,000 United Light and Power Company 5% per cent gold notes, due in 1928, also was mar- keted at 99 and accrued Interest to yield about 5.80 per cent. Stockholders of New York Canners, Inc., will vote March 17 on a proposed offering of new common stock at $28 & share, on the basis of one share for every five held. This will increase the ~outstanding stock to 123,600 shares. NEW YORK, February 26—Motor merger talk bas been revived in the financial district owing to the arrival in the city of officfals of various com- panies mentioned in the deal. Strength of motor shareg yesterday added in- terest to the report, one version link- ing Briggs Body Corporation, Pack- ard, Hudson and Dodge in a consoli- dation. Bankers and officials of these companies have declined to discuss the report. JEWEL TEA’S BEST YEAR. Highest Earnings Since Pre-War Period Reported Today. NEW YORK, February 26.—Net profits of the Jewel Tea Company in 1924 reached $855.076, the highest the company has shown since the pre- war period, equivalent to $23.49 a share on the preferred stock on which no dividends have been paid since Oc- tober, 1919, Balance after allowing for the annual 7 per cent preferred dividend is equal to $5 & share on the common, compared with $3.07 a share in 1923."
