Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, August 26.—Continued selling of the New York City Traction bonds was perhaps the chief single incident in the bond market today. Third Avenue adjustments in particular were under- pressure. A week ago they were selling close to 55. Today on large transactions they went be- low 48, although subsequently rally- ing somewhat. Presumably, the Third Avenue Company would be hit rather hard by the comprehensive expansion plan proposed by the Fifth Avenue Bus Company. This, at least, was the main reason for the selling of the jun- for_bonds, Recovery in the St Paul issues had been checked in the market Monday. Today they were slightly lower. Nothing further was said on the sub- ject of new. banking interests buy- ing into the property, the story which had put St. Paul issues up so sharply on Saturd Forelgn Issues Sold. Tn the foreign Rovernment section profit-taking continued in the Jugo- v 835 which were off nearly two points from their recent high. French §s and the 7l=s -were inclined to droop, and so were Belgian 7%s. At one time the latter were off over a point. French City sues were actively dealt in, but here, too, there was a slight tendency toward further reaction after the. wave of enthusi- astic buying which followed the Lon- don agreement 10 days ago. Railway issues did little. Erie convertible A were not responsive to the acceptance announced overnight of the terms of the Nickel Plate merger. They were down ' point early in the day, later hardening somewhat. Selling kept on in the Wilson & Co. bonds as the result of the receivership procecdings. Liberty Bonds Heavy. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, August 26.—Con- flicting price movements marked to- day’s early bond trading. French issues led a downward movement in the foreign group, the government obligations being depressed by re- ports that France would seek another external loan. Belgian 7!is8, Paris- Lyons-Mediterranean 6s and Serbian 8s receded about a point each. Unecasiness over the final otitcome of “the Wilson & C(o. receivership suit brought further selling of the first and convertible s, which lost 1 to 2 points, but the con- vertible recovered a point. Lo s in the railroad group mainly were confined to fractions, with ac- | tivity centered in Minn polis and | lfl!}!fl 4s. Pere Marquette 5s, St. Paul lines and the Erie convertible issues.
